A nice route located south of Huaraz and in the heart of the Cordillera Blanca.

Place where you will enjoy a unique landscape, snow-capped mountains, lagoons and with a little luck you will see one of the auquénidos flag of Peru the “VICUÑA” and the king of the Andes, the Condor. You can go fishing in the river or lagoon which abounds in its natural state without human presence.

Note:

  • We recommend 2 to 3 days of acclimatization. ¡This will allow you to fully Discover and Enjoy this beautiful walk!

  • The direction of the itinerary can be reversed according to the availability of the mountain assistants.

  • On this route we have options for fewer or more days of walking, please consult.

Itinerary:

We will start our adventure just after breakfast in Huaraz, heading south, passing through the towns of Tacllan, Olleros and Huaripampa, where the second part of our team and mules will be waiting to help us carry all the camping equipment, food and a change of clothes. We will start this beautiful experience on a flat path that will take us to the Rurec Gorge, where we will spend our first night between two mountain ranges and next to the Rurec River.

Walking time: 4 to 5 hours approximately.

Approximate difference in altitude: 550 m. going up.

 After breakfast, we will start our trek in the Rurec Valley, surrounded by beautiful mountains like Shacsha, Rurec and Uruashraju. The path goes between two giant white granite rock mountains perfect for practicing another adventure sport, “rock climbing”. In a few hours of walking we will reach our goal and after lunch next to that beautiful lagoon we will return again through the same valley to our camp, where our cook will be waiting with a hot chocolate.

Walking time: 6 to 7 hours approximately round trip.

Approximate difference in altitude: 750 m. going up.

After a refreshing rest and a delicious breakfast, we will start our walk up to the Pucara Hirca Pass (Cerro Rojo). On the way you will enjoy a unique landscape, snowy mountains, lagoons and with a little luck you will see one of the auquénidos flags from Peru the “VICUÑA”, the Condor and other species of Andean fauna; after lunch and after taking many photos we will go down to our next Shacsha camp, next to a river and the Shacsha Lagoon. After a hot chocolate we will go fishing in the river or in the lagoon, with a little skill and luck we will taste a rich steamed trout, caught by your own hands.

Walking time: 5 to 6 hours approximately.   

Approximate difference in altitude: 650 m. climb and 500m. down.

After breakfast, we will continue our expedition visiting beautiful Shacsha, Cashan and Rajucolta Valleys; We will also visit beautiful lagoons such as the Azulcocha, Cashan and after lunch at the Cashan Pass, we will go off to the camp next to Turicocha located at the foot of the snowy Cashan.

Walking time: 5 to 6 hours approximately.

Approximate difference in altitude: 450 m. going up

As everything beautiful in life ends, we have to return to Huaraz; but not before visiting the beautiful Rajucolta Lagoon located at the foot of one of the 6,000-meter snow-capped mountains of the Cordillera Blanca “Huantsan”. After lunch in that beautiful place, we will return to where we started, this is where one of our drivers will pick us up and take us home to Huaraz.

  • Warm water in the morning to wash.

  • Flashlight: front or handheld plus extra battery.
